Whole Wheat Oatmeal Cookies

These cookies are chock full of HEALTHY ingredients. And the boys still love them.

Did you know that maple syrup can be used as a heart-healthy sugar alternative? Also, that it has less calories and more minerals than honey?

Yep. That’s why it’s the sweetener of choice in my home when we’re not using Stevia.

It’s also used as the sweetener in this recipe.

Mmm... Cookie dough.

Before going further, though, I have to tell you that although my boys love them and I think they’re pretty good, they’re probably NOT the best healthy oatmeal recipe on the Internet.

In fact, I’ve been “in my laboratory” trying to perfect this recipe because I love oatmeal cookies so much. . . and this one–as well as the others I’ve tried so far, just doesn’t do the oatmeal cookie justice. I give this one a 7.5 on a 1-10 scale (10 being “you just can’t get better than this”). I’m also trying to create a wheat-less cookie.

Thought I’d tell you that before you wasted your ingredients and time. My boys love them because they’re not used to unhealthy foods and they haven’t had an unhealthy cookie before. But yours might not.

Having said all of this, the other recipes I share should appeal to most any child and parent–and rate (on my personal scale) at, at least an 8.5. :)

Ingredients:

  1. 1 Cup Whole Wheat Flour
  2. 1 1/2 Cup Rolled Oats
  3. 1/2 Tsp Baking Soda
  4. 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
  5. 1 Tsp Sea Salt
  6. 2-3 Tbsp Cinnamon
  7. 1/2 Tsp Nutmeg (optional)
  8. 1/2 Cup Maple Syrup
  9. 1/3 Cup Coconut Oil
  10. 1/3 Cup Ghee or Organic Butter (make sure it’s organic & try not to substitute with margarine.)
  11. 1 TbsĀ Molasses
  12. 1 Egg (beat with 1 Tbsp Water)
  13. 1 Tsp Vanilla
  14. 1 Cup Raisins
  15. 1/2 Cup Walnuts

Preparation:

  1. Throw all of the ingredients into a food processor and process! (If the mixture is runny, simply add more oatmeal until it’s the right consistency.)
  2. Preheat the oven to 335 degrees
  3. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto your baking sheet (I coat mine with Coconut Oil)
  4. Press down with a fork to ensure even cooking.
  5. Bake for about 15 – 20 minutes or until golden on the bottom of the cookie.

These cookies also freeze well.

Enjoy. :)
