These are the aminos that I’m taking for my depression symptoms, anxiety and lack of energy. Yes, there are a lot of them. And yes, I take a lot of each one… for now.
But I’ve already begun lowering my dosages and soon I should be off of most (if not all) of them. I should reiterate, too, that these aminos had an almost immediate effect on most of my symptoms. To this day I’m still astounded at how powerful these natural chemicals are.
If you’re just stumbling across this post, you’ll want to leave this page and start here.
To put together your own amino acid plan, I encourage you to read “The Mood Cure“ and “The Diet Cure.”
These books have literally changed my life… as any great book should! The author REALLY knows her stuff.
THE AMINOS
L-Tryptophan: Helps the body manufacture serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that helps you feel positive, confident and easy-going. When you’re low in serotonin, you tend to become negative, obsessive, irritable, worried and experience insomnia.
DLPA: This amino helps you build endorphins, which are responsible for cozy feelings of comfort, pleasure and euphoria. If you’re low in endorphins, you tend to cry at the drop of a dime and are oversensitive to pain.
L-Tyrosine: Combats low energy. I’m a MAJOR coffee drinker, but with the help of this amino, I now drink decaffeinated coffee almost exclusively. For the time being, I do still take 5-Hour Energy shots, but as I explained in earlier posts in this side blog, I’m doing it more for a “treat” than anything and plan to get off of it soon. The reason I haven’t yet is because I’ve already made so many HUGE changes and want to now just make one at a time.
GABA: Helps you feel relaxed and stress-free. If you’re low in GABA, you probably feel stressed and overwhelmed. This amino is AMAZING. About 20 minutes after I take it, I feel so c-a-l-m. And I’m NEVER calm.
L-Glutamine: Helps curb cravings for sugar and alcohol. After having my twins, I began to have major sugar cravings in the evening. Also, cravings for alcohol. L-Glutamine has really helped w/ these. So much so that I can either take or leave either.
I’ll go over all of these aminos (& share the specific products I take) much more thoroughly in upcoming posts. I’m also beginning to chronicle my experience with these aminos, the other support nutrients and the diet that Julia Ross–author of both books, “The Diet Cure” and “The Mood Cure”–prescribes for people, like myself, who are trying to rebalance their brain chemistry.
