I’ve tried a number of therapies and supplements to get rid of my depression symptoms: bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, homeopathic tinctures, acupuncture, mega-doses of Omega 3s and B-complex vitamins, raw foods, juicing, mineral cocktails, deep breathing, “positive” thinking, exercise, affirmations, and the list goes ON… but, so far, nothing has *cured* me.
Although some of the natural methods I’ve tried over the years to help treat the depression have helped to one degree or another, none have helped nearly enough to take the place of an SSRI, which is the way I’m currently managing my depression.
But this is a drug I desperately want to get off of.
In October 2012, after reading both “The Diet Cure” and “The Mood Cure,” I finally took the plunge and began amino acid therapy, which has already begun to work WONDERS for me.
Prior to reading these books, I thought that I was looking at another expensive therapy that would fall short of my expectations.
Multiple doctor’s visits… pricey amino acids… empty promises.
But, thank God, that hasn’t been the case.
I’m treating myself, so no doctor’s visits/costs are necessary. What’s more, the amino acids (although I’m taking a lot of them), aren’t nearly as expensive as I thought they’d be… and they’re very accessible.
I began supplementation in October 2011 and as I post this page now, it’s January 2012. I’m going to blog here about all of my experiences thus far and for the rest of the winter, then I’ll write about my experiences with weaning off of my SSRI.
Roughly 1 in 6 Americans now suffer from some form of mental illness. It’s incredibly important to share information about *effective*, natural alternatives to SSRI’s. Amino acid therapy might not work for everyone, but if you’re out there suffering, it might be worth a try.
In this mini-blog, I’ll share my experiences with aminos as I use them to help re-balance my brain chemistry. My plan is to re-balance first. Then, in the spring to start slowly weaning myself from my SSRI. I’ll explain everything in detail in the coming weeks.
If you’re a parent who is suffering from depression, you might want to follow me on this journey to see if aminos could be the right answer for you.
Please note: It’s 1/5/12 as I publish this page, so it’ll take me a few days to post the first follow-up posts. Please bear with me!
